If you like a good afternoon tea and enjoy dining  in fabulous places this experience will be perfect for you.  During the summer recess, Stormont opens its doors to the public who can enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the members dining room.  A full lunch menu is available in addition to the afternoon tea which is served from 2-4pm.

To make the most of the visit, we booked a tour of the building which is free of charge.  I have been in Parliament buildings many times but found it really interesting to hear all the history associated with this wonderful building.  After the tour we moved upstairs to our table for afternoon tea.  We were offered a choice of coffee, tea or herbs tea and presented with a rather marvelous array of salmon, beef and egg finger sandwiches, cakes and scones with jam and clotted cream all for the bargain price of £10.00. Thats a pretty good price for afternoon tea!

One of our party is a vegetarian and the waitress kindly offered to bring his served separately which was a nice touch and ensured that the rest of us didn’t pig into the egg sandwiches and leave him short!

Without a doubt the best part of this experience is the amazing view from behind the balcony- right down the mile long stretch of Prince of Wales Avenue at the front of the building.  I can thoroughly recommend that you give this a try.  The Summer recess continues until Friday 2nd September so you still have a few weeks to get yourselves in there.

Apparently booking isn’t essential but it is a good idea to ring ahead to check availability (028 9052 1041).  Full details of the afternoon tea can be found here.
