A review of Cast and Crew, Belfast

Cast and Crew is a gem of a restaurant in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast.  It is situated in an old brick bunker that used to be an outpost of the First Trust bank. Sitting between The Titanic Visitors Centre and The Belfast Metropolitan College it lay unloved for a long time but has now been brought back to life in spectacular style!

I went there for lunch with Mr. Eating Ideas to celebrate his birthday and we weren’t disappointed.  On arrival we were greeted by Rebecca who showed us to our table, gave us our menus and talked us through the daily specials.  I have to say, Rebecca was a charming host and couldn’t have been more helpful.

The menu is full of delicious sounding choices.  I was struck by the excellent range of breakfast options and will definitely be back to try them out.  After refocussing on the lunch choices I decided to try the Kale and peanut salad.  Mr. Eating Ideas opted for the small all day Ulster Fry (£8.00 for the small serving and £9.50 for large) .  Northern Ireland is famed for its cooked breakfasts and this one didn’t disappoint!  It was a generous serving of bacon, sausage, black pudding, poached egg, portobello mushroom, home-made mixed beans with butter beans & kidney beans, potato bread and soda bread.  This was consumed with gusto by the birthday boy and declared to be an excellent fry.

My kale and peanut salad (£8.50) could possibly be the nicest salad I have ever eaten. Kale leaves, tomatoes, red onion and sunflower seeds, tossed in a wonderful dressing made with soy sauce, honey, white wine vinegar and peanut butter.  I loved this- it was totally delicious and I now want to recreate it at home. I also tucked into some great sweet potato fries (£3.50).

I have eaten in the sister restaurants of Cast & Crew- Hadskis, Belfast Bar & Grill and James Street South.  All of them are firm favourites and Cast and Crew lived up to their high standards.  Excellent staff, great ambience and best of all, fantastic food.  If you haven’t been, I urge you to give it a try.  I will definitely be back!
