Freshii is conveniently located in the heart of Belfast City Centre. The Canadian-based global food outlet has opened its first Northern Ireland store in Donegal Square West and it is a new firm favourite I have enjoyed breakfast there on several occasions but not lunch so I was keen to give it a try. I invited my pal Kathryn to join me there. We are regular lunch buddies and have dined in many establishments. We both love food so this would be a good test.
When we met there, we were taken by the range of options on offer. While we were trying to decide on our choices we were offered a sample of the Freshii green smoothie made from kale, spinach, pineapple, avocado and low-fat frozen yoghurt. After much deliberation I ended up choosing the Teriyaki Twist Bowl. The contained brown rice, broccoli, carrots, edamame, cucumber, spring onions, sesame seeds, crispy lentils and Teriaki sauce (£5.95). Kathryn opted for the Oaxaca bowl which came with brown rice, black beans, shredded kale, beet slaw, son, crispy lentils, avocado, salsa fresca and spicy yoghurt sauce (£6.95) All the salads can have the addition of chicken, tuna, falafel or tofu for £1.00 or beef for £2.00. Our salads were delicious- fresh with lots of textures and flavours working together. Put simply, we loved them and agreed that we will be back!
Freshii has more than 300 outlets worldwide and is proving a hit for those looking an alternative to fast, but too often, unhealthy food. The chain aims to energise the Northern Ireland palate with meal choices based on fibre-rich, slow-burning carbohydrates, essential fats and lean proteins, with more than 70 ingredients and home-made salad dressings created daily served in an eco-friendly environment. It’s well worth a visit!
