People just don’t seem to make traybakes any more. I was offered a selection of them at a family funeral and it made me feel nostalgic for when everyone made them, instead of just offering a shop bought selection!
I have to say that my mother has a fine selection of traybake recipes that I really must rediscover.
The one that really took me back was the good old “Fifteen” that I remember making in school and at the girl guides. The fifteen name is to reflect the ingredients, which rather simply are as follows;
15 digestive biscuits
15 glace cherries
15 marshmallows
Small tin of condensed milk
Dessicated coconut
All you do is crush the biscuits, chop and add the cherries and marshmallows
Add the condensed milk ( you may not need it all but use enough to hold the other ingredients together)
Roll into a sausage shape, roll in dessicated coconut, wrap in cling film and chill
Cut into slices and serve in bun cases
Pretty simple but lovely with a nice cup of tea!
