This is a restaurant  that I have never been to but have always fancied trying.  A friend of mine eats there regularly, and he booked a table for a crowd of us to go.

When I arrived, the restaurant was completely empty.  the surprise for me was that within an hour, every table was full!

I really liked the atmosphere and was particularly impressed with the service.  Quite often, I find overly attentive waiting staff really annoying but the staff in la Trompette were professional and helpful without being in our faces.

I was torn between the choice of starters and to my delight, my friend agreed to go half and half on 2 different starters.  I chose the seared loin of tuna with raw vegetables, soya, sesame and citrus dressing.  she chose the new season asparagus with crab mayonnaise, cucumber and dill.  They were bot hlovely but if I had to choose I would say that the asparagus had the edge and was really unusual!

For my main course, I chose the roast fillet of cod with griddled chorizo and courgettes, parmesan gnocchi and salsa verde.  This was a totally unique combination of tastes and textures that I would never have considered putting togther, but I have to say they worked really well.

While the others were all ordering desserts, I chose the cheeseboard, which I dont normally do.  A huge cheese board came to the table with ann extensive range of cheeses to choose from.  Our French Waitress talked us through the whole range and seemed to know her stuff.  I am not sure what I had but I was able to choose 5 and they came with crackers, oatcakes and some quince jelly  which you dont see too often

Two things stand out for me about La Trompette, the standard of  the service and the unique pairing of flavours.  Definitely worth a revisit!
