My friend, Ali Askir, held the official opening of the new Indus Valley by Safa restaurant in Coleraine. Ali is both the founder of the Irish Curry Awards and a fellow co-host of @FoodNIHour on Twitter so I was keen to show my support. I have eaten in his restaurant, Safa, quite a few times so knew that we were in for a treat!
A crowd of hungry guests travelled by bus to Coleraine where we met the other happy diners who had been invited to sample some of the delicious food on offer.
After sitting on a bus, we were gleeful to be greeted with a Tanqueray Gin reception and a warm welcome from Ali. We were shown to our seats and after admiring the refurbished new look for the restaurant we tucked into some poppadoms and dips, in my opinion, essential with any Indian meal.
The main course was served buffet style and we were treated to a range of treats, including Vegetable Pakora, Chicken Karahi, Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Bhuna, Pilau Rice and Naan bread. Obviously, in the name of research, I had to try everything on offer. It was a sacrifice I had to make for you dear reader and you will be glad that I did as I can assure you that it was divine and all washed down with a refreshing glass of Cobra Beer.
I have visited India and I can tell you that the food in Indus Valley is both authentic and delicious. The service was great and the welcome warm! I will definitely be back and urge you to give it a try too. You won’t be disappointed.
I used to love Safa, and was really gutted when it closed down. It’s great to hear that Ali has managed to get things going again – he is such a lovely guy and a really awesome chef as well. He’s got a great reputation for a reason!!!
The new restaurant is fabulous- well worth a try!
Coleraine needs a good Indian restaurant. I will definitely check it out!
You should Sarah- the food is delicious!
I was so disappointed with my meal tonight since the change! The Bhuna was swimming in oil, the tikka masala was so sweet it was like sugar and the chicken tandoori was one wing for £3.95! The quality was significantly inferior sadly.
oh no- thats so disappointing! I can honestly say that the food I had was delicious.
