Wine delivered to the door by Le Petit Ballon UK

The nice folk at Le Petit Ballon UK asked me to trial their wine delivery subscription service. Wine delivered to the door? What's not to like about that?
It’s no secret that I am rather fond of a glass of wine or two, so it was with great excitement that I received my delivery of two wines selected for me by the sommeliers at Le Petit Ballon.
Le Petit Ballon is a wine subscription service that delivers selected wines to your door. Master sommelier Jean-Michel Deluc explores the world’s leading wine regions to find the best estates, domains and chateaux from which the Le Petit Ballon wine is selected. What a fun way to discover new wines from the comfort of your home.
My rather exciting delivery contained a bottle of red and one of white along with a copy of Le Petit Ballon’s gazette, packed full of wine news, tips and recipes. The red was a Bindi Sergardi – La Boncia 2016 and the white was a Chateau Des Bois Macon Milly Lamartine Chardonnay. Two wines that I had never tried before. I must confess that I am very boring with my wine choices. I tend to stick to the ones that I know and like. I have always wanted to be a bit braver with my wine choices and embraced having someone else make the choices for me.
In general, I have a preference for white wine and so tried the white first. To my very amateur palette, this tasted fresh and citrussy. I will admit to having followed the trend away from Chardonnay but this may just have me back on board. The tasting notes said that this would be great paired with cured meats so I paired it with a simple tomato & pancetta pasta and it worked very well.
I don’t often drink red wine so this was more of a challenge for me . I have to say, I really liked this. It was bold and fruity with a hint of berries. The tasting notes advised that it was ideally suited for Bolognese sauce so that what I paired it with, even adding a splash of the wine to the sauce. What a lovely combination
Monthly subscriptions start from £24.90. You can find out more here.
Le Petit ballon sent me this sample free of charge in return for an unbiased post.
