There’s a new Thai restaurant in town and it’s simply fabulous. I was lucky enough to be invited along to try out Camile, on the Lisburn Road in Belfast and I’m really glad that I did!

Thai cooking has an emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatics and a spicy edge .Thai chefs pay a high level of detail to texture, colour, appearance and most importantly, flavour. I have spent time travelling around Thailand and lived less than ½ mile from my favourite Thai restaurant in London so I had high expectations!

Camile has opened in the old M&S premises on the Lisburn Road, just across the road from the Chelsea bar. Very convenient for a pre-dinner drink if that takes your fancy.

Myself and Mr. Eating Ideas rocked up with no idea of what to expect and I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed. The premises are quirky and welcoming. There’s not a huge amount of seating but we were able to grab a nice little spot by the window.

The menu offers a wide variety of choice with an appetizing range of starters, curries, seafood, noodles stir-fries and more. There is even a choice of six lighter option meals containing less than 600 calories. I mentally stored that fact for future visits and perused the rest of the menu.

I opted for one of my favourite Thai dishes, Beef Massaman curry with Jasmine rice, a mild and rich curry with tender pieces of sirloin steak, potato, onion and shallots. Mr. Eating Ideas chose the crispy Chilli chicken, lightly battered chicken pieces, wok fried with peppers, onions and spring onions in a sweet chilli sauce with sesame seeds. All served with Egg fried rice. Obviously we shared and both dishes were fresh, aromatic and delicious.

There are doggy bags on display for anyone who wants to take their leftovers home but on this occasion, we polished off the lot- Yummy!

While we were there, I met Brody Sweeney who set up Camile and he kindly offered me a tour of the kitchens. He introduced me to several members of the team who although were up to their eyes in food preparation and cooking, were happy to take time out for a quick chat and a photo. Brody was keen to stress the freshness of the produce and pointed out the tiny little freezer in the kitchen to prove his point. Seeing the fresh ingredients on display was so reassuring. I am a big ambassador of cooking fresh produce from scratch and here was proof that Camile were doing just that but with more skill and expertise!

Most of Camile’s business is in takeaway and I will definitely be taking advantage of their services. Give them a try- you won’t be disappointed!
