Its not hard to find a good place to eat in Chiswick and High Road house is definitely one of them.  It was opened in 2006 as part of the Soho house family and has proved to be very popular

Although it is actually a private members club, it does take bookings from the general public for the brasserie which is a great spot .

I have breakfasted there a few times but not dined so I was delighted to be invited along to join PR gurus Dominic and Adam from Paratus communications for dinner

After a very refreshing Gin and tonic on arrival I was strugging with the menu (sample shot below)  After a good discussion with the waiter, I opted for the salmon tartare (£8), and he showed me the selection of ingredients that he would mix with the salmon.  these included shallots, sweet chilli, dill and capers.  He brought these to the table and let me choose which I would like.  The dish then came, beautifully presented with rocket and balsamic.  Its not a dish that I would normally choose but i was glad I took the risk and my thanks go to that waiter for that!

For a main course, I chose the fillet steak (£18) and it looked so good on arrival that I forgot to take a picture.  It was beautifully cooked and came with fries and bearnaise sauce.  Dominic was kind enough to let me try a bit of his pepper sauce too as I was torn between the two,  The three of us shared some spinach and cauliflower cheese.  The cauliflower cheese tasted better than it looked!

by this stage I was quite stuffed but having no will power, I was persuaded that the three of us should share a couple of desserts (all £6).  We chose stawberry pavlova and a mixed ice cream (vanilla, chocolate and pistacchio)  This was the first time during the meal that I was disappointed.  Regular readers will know that I am a fan of a home made pavlova but this was not what I expected.  It was more of a meringue nest with strawberries and a scoop of icecream on top.  Wht a shame.  The ice cream was good although I think its hard to mess that up.  the pistacchio one was very nutty but tasted good.  We each enjoyed a glass of Sauternes dessert wine which was the perfect accompaniment!

All in all, a very enjoyable evening.  Good food, good wine and excellent company.  High Road house definitely a good choice in my eyes.  Thanks to Dominic and Adam for this fine experience!

  1. Really glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. I also thought the quality was really good, with my eggs benedict done to perfection!
