Memories of Havana in Revolucion de Cuba

I have spent some time in Cuba and am no stranger to the Salsa dance floor so I was quite excited to try Revolution de Cuba in Belfast’s City Centre.

I persuaded Mr. Eating Ideas to join me on the promise that he wouldn’t have to dance but kept my fingers crossed just in case!

Revolucion de Cuba is centrally located in the former Cafe Vaudeville listed building on Arthur Street.  The venue hosts a rum bar and cantina, serving Latin inspired food and a range of cocktails to get the party started!  The whole venue is under a huge atrium roof.  I have to say that the high ceilings, atrium, unusual balcony and decor all work together to feel authentically Cuban.

After being shown to our table by our friendly server, Shannon, we perused the menu.  To start, we decided to share a selection of tapas (3 for £14.00).  After some debate, we settled on pork belly skewers, roasted in spicy rum sauce, roasted pork tacos with caramelised pineapple & hot sauce and honey and lime chicken skewers.  The honey and lime glaze on the chicken was light and delicious but for both of us, the favourite was the pork tacos- spicy and flavoursome served in three soft corn tacos.

For the main course, I chose the Carribean chicken curry (£11.50) , warming and spicy, served with zesty rice.  Mr. Eating Ideas chose the pulled pork sandwich (£8.75), a stack of slow-cooked, shredded pork with hot salsa and bacon bits on a toasted bun with skinny fries.  All this was washed down with a bottle of Altoritas Chilean Merlot (£17.25).

Although we were full, there’s always room for something sweet so we indulged in a Columbian chocolate brownie (£4.50) and some coconut ice-cream (£4.00)- perfect for sharing.
