I have to say that portion control has always been a bit of an issue for me, so the idea that someone else was in control of that was very appealing to me. Also, I think most of us are guilty of eating the same dishes on repeat so I was curious to try different things.
As this was a pilot test, Tasty Grub Club sent me a random selection of dishes but if you go to the website you can choose from a wide range of dishes and sides.
The meals come in handy, microwavable packs that are easy to store in the fridge. The nutritional values and use by dates are clearly marked too!
The meals I was sent were as follows:
- Prawn & ginger noodles with Asian slaw
- Pork meatballs with tomato & basil sauce, sweet potato mash & runner beans
- Sweet chilli chicken with rice and wok vegetables
- Spaghetti Bolognese with lean mince
- No Bun Burger with sweet potato wedges and salsa
When I saw the packs, I wasn’t entirely convinced that there would be enough in there for me as I tend towards over serving. Having said that, there’s a great saying that you should only eat food that is presented on a plate and this is very true. When the dishes were plated up, there was plenty- even for me!
The other thing that struck me was the lack of waste. If I was to buy in all the ingredients to make these dishes just for me, there would inevitably be a lot of waste. Ideally appreciated just getting exactly what I would eat with no food waste
I was also impressed by the quality. A lot of effort has gone into making these fresh and tasty too!
