A recipe for Celeriac Mash

Saturday, May 22, 2021

I’m a big fan of celeriac. You can pretty much do anything with it that you would with a potato but with a much healthier result! This mash is healthy and delicious too!

Celeriac is a flavoursome and versatile vegetable that can be used in lots of different ways.  Basically, you can use it any way that you would us a potato- mash, roasties, dauphinoise, chips and more.   It even makes a lovely base for soup.

It is often referred to as celery root, but its not the root of an actual celery stick!  The edible part of the celeriac plant is in the root which is pale and potato like.  It’s also known as knob celery.  Confused? Just think of it as a healthy potato-like veg that tastes a bit like celeriac and parsley!

This mash is very tasty.  The addition of nutritional yeast gives it quite a cheesy taste.  I have to say, nutritonal yeast is one of my new favourite ingredients.  Its got a cheesy nutty flavour but only has 5% fat which makes it a very healthy choice.  It’s also vegan, gluten-free and is loaded with vitamin B12.

Whatever you do – do not confuse nutritional yeast with bakers yeast, they aren’t the same thing at all.
