Recipe for Orange Drizzle Cake

A recipe for orange Drizzle cake. With its moist texture, and delicious tanginess, Orange Drizzle Cake is the perfect balance of sweet and citrus.


This is a lovely variation of a lemon drizzle cake.  This was a result of starting to make a lemon one but finding that I had no lemons but plenty of oranges!  I thought it was worth a try and I was delighted with the results.  It has a lovely flavour and was moist and delicious.  Best of all, this is really easy to make and is worth a go.

Ingredients for orange drizzle cake

  • 225g butter
  • 225g castor sugar
  • 225g self raising flour
  • 4 eggs
  • Zest of 1 orange

For the drizzle

  • Juice of 1 orange
  • 100g castor sugar
  • Preheat the oven to 180C
  • Line a loaf tin with grease proof paper or a loaf tin liner
  • Zest the orange
  • Beat together the sugar and butter until pale and fluffy
  • Add the eggs one at a time
  • Fold in the flour
  • Add the zest
  • Add the mixture to the loaf tin
  • Smooth the top
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes until a skewer inserted comes out clean and the cake os spongey to the touch
  • Mix the sugar and orange juice to make the drizzle
  • Prick the cake all over
  • Pour over the drizzle
  • Allow to cool completely and cut into slices
  • Serve with a nice cup of tea!
