Casual dining at Kitch, Belfast

Monday, August 15, 2016

We visited Kitch restaurant on the Dublin Road in Belfast for the first time. Here's a review of our visit and details of the food we tried!

If you want a meal in a fancy environment with the best of decor- read no further!  If, however, you would like excellent food at a reasonable price in a down to earth, no frills establishment, Kitch could be just the place for you.

Kitch is located on the Dublin Road in Belfast in what used to be the very popular eatery, Belle Epoque many years ago.  It has to be said that the decor is very basic with the feel of my old university canteen.  School type chairs and a mission to use the napkins to steady the uneven table should give you the general idea!  Having said that, as soon as we walked in, I felt relaxed and happy, finding the place to be quirky and charming.

There was excellent choice on the menu with a range of small plates or tapas along with the starters to choose from.  As a massive fan of feta cheese, I chose the Feta fritters with onion jam, honey and balsamic.  I have to say, this was an excellent choice and crispiness of the batter perfectly off set the creamy saltiness of the feta.  I loved every mouthful.  The other half chose the Strangford Lough mussels with white wine garlic cream and chives.  There was a huge pile of mussels which tasted good and got the thumbs up!

For our mains, I chose the Chicken Tikka flatbread with buttered onions, slaw, courgettes, rocket and spicy mayo.  This was served with a pizza cutter and came piled high with tender, succulent pieces of Chicken Tikka.  I wasn’t able to finish the flat bread as there was so much chicken and salad  which worked well with the spicy mayo.

The other half those the 28 day prime aged sirloin steak, triple cooked fat chips, onion rings, sautéed mushrooms and pepper sauce.  This was declared to be tasty and filling but the plate couldn’t be finished.

While we were both full to bursting, we agreed that there is always room for something sweet so we opted for the strawberry cheesecake and selection of ice-cream  to share though really, one between us would have been more than enough.

We loved the atmosphere and agreed that the service was good.  Best of all, the food tasted great.  We will be back!

Our bill

Feta fritters £3.50

Mussels £7.00

Tandoori Chicken flatbread £10.00

Sirloin Steak £18.00

Tanquery gin and Fevertree tonic £7.25

Total- 20.50
