Did you know there’s a new food tour in Newry and its worth checking out! It’s an exciting culinary walking experience located within the Mourne Gullion Strangford UNESCO Global Geopark, where you can sample the finest flavours of local food and drink produce. This immersive tour takes you on a journey through the vibrant food & drink scene of Newry City, showcasing the region’s finest local produce, talented chefs, and unique flavours.

The Newry Food Tour has been developed by Newry BID, in conjunction with Newry Mourne and Down District Council as part of its ‘Food in the City’ initiative.

I was invited to the launch of the tour and loved it.  The 3-hour guided walking tour is a great way to discover more about the city, its people, history, stories, dishes, flavours and beverages.  We visited Phillips Fruit, The Shelbourne Bakery, Finegan & Son, The Bank Bar, Snaubs and the Canal Court Hotel.  I have to say, I was as full as an egg by the end of it, but the local food and drinks were so delicious, I couldn’t resist!

The tour is led by brilliant local guide Declan McConaghy, who shares his insights about Newry’s culinary heritage, its history, and the traditions that have shaped its unique food culture.

The small group tour is suitable for food enthusiasts of all ages and I can vouch that it really is a tasty experience.

The first Newry Food Tour is scheduled for Thursday 31 August & 28 September

2023 at 2pm.  For more information including pricing, availability, and
