My very own bespoke burger at Kua ‘Aina

Tuesday, November 29, 2016

To Celebrate it's anniversary in Belfast, Kua 'Aina held a special Hawaiian themed party and a "create a legend" extravaganza. Eating Ideas was invited along to join the fun and create a bespoke legendary burger- here's how I got on!

I had never been to Kua ‘Aina before so I was delighted to be invited to a special anniversary party there.  I met up with my lovely chum Lindsey from @Lindslikedthat  and we merrily skipped in together with no idea what to expect.  To our delight we were greeted with Lei garlands and Prosecco- what’s not to like about that?

Once our leis were on we were fully in the party spirit.  Members of staff were circulating with platters of samples from the new Christmas menu while we mingled with the other guests.  This was full on decadence for a Monday night!

We were then introduced to our challenge- to create a legendary burger.  This competition is open to the public and each month a new burger is featured on the menu.  I love a challenge so this was right up my street.  The nice folks in the restaurant had helpfully laid on a wide range of unusual and some quite frankly odd toppings to inspire us.

The competition is quite straightforward.  All you have to do is come up with an unique burger combination, give it an awesome name and share it on social media tagging Kua ‘Aina.  I decided to focus on foods that I love.  I did get a little distracted by the peanut butter on display but managed to restrain myself.  My delectable creation consisted of  a beef burger with houmus, halloumi and avocado in a burger bun dressed with tomato and lettuce.  I grandly named it the Aloha Nui Loa halloumi madness burger.  Aloha Nui Loa means very much love which I felt was entirely appropriate.  I have to say, it was absolutely delicious and the combination of flavours and textures worked beautifully.

I have to say, I love the vibe at Kua “Aina- it’s a really cool place with funky decor.  It’s been serving burgers and  sandwiches in Hawaii since 1975 and has restaurants in Goodge Street, Carnaby Street and now Belfast.  The food is fresh and delicious and well worth a visit.  I did have a good pore over the menu and I will definitely be back to try the chilli cheese fries- heaven!!

A massive thanks to Brittany and Julie from Massive Public Relations for the invitation- what a swell party it was- Mahalo nui loa!
