This is a gem of a discovery in Notting Hill, just a stone’s throw from the Portabello Road and market.  I had never been to E and O before but was delighted to be invited along to sample its wares.

The restaurant was small but busy with a great buzz and a warm atmosphere.  Although the menu is quite small, it still took us ages to choose as everything sounded so delicious.

We started by grazing on some edamame beans (£3.75),  and chilli salt squid (£7.25)  I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to squid as the one and only time I have eaten it, it was as chewy as a welly boot!  I was persuaded to try it, and it was delicious, dipped in chilli sauce and not remotely chewy!!

We followed up with some coconut & peanut sambai chicken (£13.00), which I have to say was divine, and probably my favourite dish of the evening.  We also had some chilli tofu (£6.50).  to be very honest, I never would have ordered tofu on my own but it was pretty good and really tender.  Our last choice was the black cod and sweet miso (£36.00)  This was clearly the dearest item on the menu and we were curious as to what would  justify that price tag.  On tasting it, I honestly can’t answer that question as I really dont know what all the fuss was about.

Expensive black cod aside, I had one of the best evenings I have had in a long time and would definitely recommend E and O for great food and a lovely atmosphere
