Memories of Morocco with a little help from Spice Pioneer

The nice folk at Spice Pioneer invited me to try out their exclusive spice club. I simply adore spicy food so couldn't wait to give them a try!

While I love spicy food, I will admit to be a bit lazy when it comes to spices.  I rarely follow recipes and if I don’t have the spices I need, I simply substitute them with what I consider to be the next best thing.

The beauty about this scheme is  that you receive the exact quantities of spices that you need for each element of the meal.  Best of all, you can tweak any element to suit your own taste.

I received 2 boxes to try.  One themed on Sri Lanka and the other on Marrakesh.  I decided to  try the Moroccan version.  Inside the box is a postcard from Marrakech to get you in the mood along with the spices you need, a full shopping list for everything you should stock up on and step by step instructions to how to make each element.

The menu was Chicken Tagine, Orange + date salad with pomegranate molasses and fennel couscous.  I really can’t bear the taste of fennel so decided to leave that out.  I also forgot to buy couscous so swapped that for rice and the meal really didn’t suffer for it.

The recipes were really easy to follow and it was a joy not having to measure out all the individual spices  Best of all they were delcicious .  I really can’t wait to try the next one- Sri Lanka here I come!
