Baking treacle wheaten bread with Andrew Smyth in the new M&S, Craigavon

Sunday, October 7, 2018

To celebrate the opening of the new Marks & Spencer in Craigavon, Eating Ideas was invited to join the celebrations. As part of the event, Great British Bake Off star, Andrew Smyth demonstrated how to make his delicious treacle wheaten bread.

Great British Bake Off 2016 finalist Andrew Smyth was a special guest at the opening where he hosted a series of baking demonstrations giving customers a taste of what M&S Craigavon has to offer.  He made his treacle wheaten bread which is delicious and easy to make too!  I was invited to join the fun and made myself useful as his general assistant, measuring out the ingredients and running the loaves to the ovens in the store’s bakery.

I have met Andrew before and as always he was funny and charming.  Safe to say that the crowds loved him!

His recipe, instructions and a video of him making the bread, can be found below.

Andrew's recipe for treacle wheaten bread

  • 325g strong wholemeal bread flour
  • 125g plain white flour
  • 50g porridge oats
