A recipe for flaxseed crackers and some health benefits of the mighty and very healthy flaxseed that packs a nutritional punch.

These flaxseed crackers are super healthy and really easy to make using Linwoods organic cold milled flaxseed. Check out some of my favourite health benefits at the bottom of this post.

  • 60g milled flaxseeds (I used Linwoods)
  • 30mls water (you may need a bit more or a bit less)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

(You can basically add whatever flavours you fancy!)

  • Mix all the dry ingredients together and add enough water to form a dough
  • Roll out the dough between 2 layers of parchment/grease proof paper
  • Slide the paper onto a baking tray and carefully peel off the top sheet
  • Cut the dough before baking to form the cracker shapes
  • Bake at 175 for around 15-30 minutes or until crisp. Keep an eye on them as they can easily burn. The baking time will depend on the size & thickness of your crackers
  • Serve and enjoy with your toppings of choice 😉

Some health benefits of flaxseed

The Marvelous Health Benefits of Flaxseed: A Tiny Seed with a Mighty Impact!

Welcome to the world of flaxseed, a small yet powerful seed that packs a punch when it comes to health benefits. From boosting heart health to supporting digestion and managing weight, flaxseed has earned its place as a superfood in the realm of nutrition. Join me as I explore the incredible advantages this humble seed brings to our well-being.

  1. Heart Health Champion: Flaxseed is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for maintaining a healthy heart. These fatty acids help reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and prevent the formation of blood clots. By incorporating flaxseed into your diet, you can enhance cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of heart disease.

  2. Digestive Delight: Are you looking to promote a healthy digestive system? Flaxseed is your ally! Thanks to its high fibre content, flaxseed supports regular bowel movements and prevents constipation. It can also help alleviate symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and promote gut health by providing nourishment for beneficial gut bacteria.

  3. Flaxseed for Flawless Skin: For those seeking radiant and youthful skin, flaxseed may hold the secret. Packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, it helps combat skin inflammation, redness, and irritation. Regular consumption of flaxseed can contribute to a clearer complexion, reducing the appearance of acne and eczema.

  4. Bone Booster: Concerned about bone health? Flaxseed contains high levels of essential minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are crucial for maintaining strong bones. These minerals work in harmony to support bone density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, particularly in postmenopausal women.

  5. Weight Management Support: If you’re on a journey to shed those extra pounds, flaxseed can be a valuable addition to your diet. The combination of fibre and healthy fats in flaxseed promotes satiety, keeping you feeling fuller for longer. This can help curb cravings and prevent overeating, assisting you in managing your weight more effectively.

  6. Hormonal Harmony: Flaxseed contains lignans, a type of plant compound with hormone-balancing properties. These lignans can help regulate estrogen levels in the body, potentially reducing the risk of hormone-related cancers, such as breast and prostate cancer. Additionally, flaxseed has been known to alleviate symptoms of menopause, including hot flashes and mood swings.

Conclusion: Incorporating flaxseed into your daily routine can lead to a myriad of health benefits. From supporting heart health and digestion to promoting radiant skin and strong bones, this tiny seed offers a wealth of advantages. Whether you sprinkle it over your breakfast cereal, add it to smoothies, or use it in my cracker recipe, the versatility of flaxseed makes it easy to enjoy its many perks. So, go ahead and harness the power of flaxseed to nurture your well-being and unlock a healthier you!
